What Is Our Objective?

The Jewett Middle Academy Magnet School Band Program serves to cultivate excellence, inspire creativity, develop confidence and competence, and instill the intrinsic value of the students who participate within it & the music they engage with.


How Do We Accomplish Our Goals?

The JMAM Band Program’s vision has three areas of focus...

Ensembles

Student Expectations

  • Students are expected to comply with the Behavioral & Academic Expectations of both Jewett Middle Academy Magnet School and Polk County Public Schools, which can be located on their respective websites.
  • Students are expected to be masters of their own schedules according to the attendance guidelines below. This includes:
    • Delivering the calendar to parents and reminding them of upcoming events.
    • Checking and reading posts made in the BAND app.
    • Students must align the schedule of other extracurriculars and work around the band practice and rehearsal schedule, which is set prior to the start of the school year.
    • Communicating with sports coaches and club sponsors about band functions is essential to avoid conflict.
    • Providing informal AND written communication with the band directors about sports events participation.
    • Work details, work, extra help in classes, homework, make-up tests, upcoming tests, family trips, retreats, etc. ARE NOT EXCUSED ABSENCES.

Required Attire

The proper uniform is required for all performances, field trips, and band activities. Please make an effort to obtain these items well in advance of concert performances. Also, do not forget to try on apparel & footwear a week prior to concerts in case a student has grown out of them! Please reach out to the band director if a student needs assistance acquiring the necessary uniform pieces. 

  • Beginning Band: Band T-shirt, long denim blue jeans (no holes, no shorts), belt, closed-toed shoes (no crocs or slides)
  • Concert/Symphonic Band: JMAM provides returning members concert shirts & bottoms*.There is a uniform rental fee of $15 for returning band students. A Uniform Rental Contract will be sent home before uniforms are sent home. Please email Ms. Picinich if unable to cover the cost.
    • Returning Members: White button-down tux shirt, cumberbund, black bowtie (boys only), long black skirt (all girls will receive a skirt) or slacks*, closed-toe black dress shoes (purchase on own by December concert, no sneakers or crocs).
      • *Limited/no school inventory available, please purchase slacks if able to for gentlemen & ladies who desire to wear slacks (rental price will be adjusted).
